Australia votes on same sex marriage laws

The postal voting procedure is underway as the Federal government seeks to ascertain whether Australians want the marriage laws changed to allow same sex marriage.  The Prime Minister says if it is a 'no' vote then this issue will be off the table.  He has openly declared that his will be a 'yes' vote. We wait with eager anticipation for the outcome which will be known on October. May the Force be with you! GD

Australia faces blackouts as the Federal government scrambles to shore up an effective electricity supply

This is a problem area for the Federal Government as it negotiates with electricity suppliers to push down their prices to the consumer and to commit to keeping sufficient coal generated power online until there can be more certainty with renewable sources. I want the dirty coal power supply to cease but support the government's position to phase out coal use slowly so as not to create the blackout crises predicted for this summer on the east coast and in South Australia. A big issue for our pollies. Many the Force be with us! GD

Aussie Federal Government in a mess

I hate to admit the title of this post but it is true.  Here are their key dilemmas: They want to have a postal vote on same sex marriage but the parliament has not approved the cost and the government now must wait on a High Court ruling to see whether it can go ahead.  The postal vote is the effete version of the original notion of having a plebiscite on this issue. Several senators and a the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives are awaiting a High Court ruling to see whether the are eligible to be in parliament as they may have breached section 44 of the Constitution in that they hold dual citizenship.  This is not allowed under the Constitution.  As the Federal conservative government only has a one seat majority in the House of Representatives they are on a knife edge.
